📊 Awesome Data Science Resources! 🎉
Welcome to the inaugural issue of Data Awesome!
Greetings! I hope your are having a data awesome year!

Everything below is designed to help you learn and everything has a lot of awesome! Let's get right to it! 😀
Awesome articles
This buffet line simulation in emoji by Erik Bernhardsson is pretty cool. Good discussion of it at Hacker News. Hat tip to Conor Dewey, who has a great newsletter you should subscribe to. 👍
This post from Dataquest is a nice guide for someone who is new to Pandas, but who knows Excel.
This is a funny coincidence. I just released my article on the most popular data science tech skills of 2019. I used the Python Requests and Beautiful Soup libraries to scrape the data from sites including Monster.com. Real Python just published this guide to using Requests and Beautiful Soup to scrape Monster.com job listings. Real Python has great intermediate Python content!😁
Awesome package, plugin, or extension
The Variable Inspector extension for Juptyer Lab is awesome! This little gem shows you information about the state of your variables in a notebook in real time! You can open it as a separate tab in your Jupyter Lab environment.
Also, if you are still using vanilla Jupyter Notebooks instead of Jupyter Lab, it's a good time to take the leap. Jupyter Lab provides a nice interface for working with Jupyter Notebooks. It has all the features of Jupyter Notebooks, plus tabbed browsing, official support, and neat things like Variable Inspector and interactive widgets. I think you'll find the transition to be pretty smooth. 👍
Awesome book for learning Python
If you or someone you know is looking to learn Python this holiday season, check out my just released Memorable Python book and learn Python the brain-friendly way!
The ebook is available at memorablepython.com in .pdf and .epub formats (.epub is for Apple Books and many other ebook readers but not Kindle). Just for Data Awesome subscribers, here's a 20% off coupon code good until Dec. 24: 9PDKS95JYG.
If you want the Kindle version, it's on Amazon for $7.99, the same price as the after-coupon price for the other e-book versions. 📖
Awesome keyboard shortcut
Control + k on a PC (Command + k on a Mac) will open a popup to insert a hyperlink in many programs. It works in Gmail, Discourse forums, Reddit - lots of places! I used it a bunch in writing this newsletter. 😉
Awesome people to follow
Kevin Markham's DataSchool YouTube channel provides great pandas and machine learning videos. He has posted 100 pandas tricks to his Twitter and LinkedIn accounts this year. Lot's of great content at Data School.
Vicki Boykis says smart, important, witty things about data science and tech in her Normcore Tech newsletter and on Twitter. Her post Data Science is Different Now is one I often recommend to folks.
What I've been working on
It's been a busy fall! 🍁 In addition to Memorable Python, here are a few learning resources you might find useful:
Results are in for the most in demand data scientist tech skills for 2019. Some technologies are up, some are down, and there are many ways to slice the data. Check out the Medium article.
I wrote a little intro to Tableau that you might find helpful if you are starting out. Tableau was the 7th most common technology in the data scientist job listings. 📊
I've got a bunch more stuff in the works, so stay tuned!
Thanks for being awesome! 🎉
In case you need more awesome, here's the YouTube video for the song: Everything Is AWESOME!!! -- The LEGO® Movie -- Tegan and Sara feat. The Lonely Island. 👍
